This tense and hugely entertaining heist thriller is a Hammer take on A Christmas Carol, which pits miserly and fastidious bank manager (Peter Cushing in sparkling form) against debonair robber André Morell, as a plot to rob a bank on Christmas Eve unfolds in almost real time. This ingenious suspenser is regarded by many as one of Hammer's best films. (Powerhouse Films)

Peter Cushing shows in this film how much of a great actor he was. From a domineering branch manager at a bank, he transforms into a jittery man thrust into a role he definitely did not want. Together with André Morel, they play an excellent game that is well executed right until the end. Hammer Studio has some hidden gems in its history. ()
