English Good for me. Surprisingly good, because they probably realized that what they are about to serve to the viewers cannot be sold with a serious face. So they focused more on humor, wisecracks, and irony. And it works. The over-the-top action is interspersed with moments where it is evident that everyone on set is actually having quite a bit of fun. In this eighth installment, they can do whatever they want, so they openly disregard rules, laws of physics, or logic. Vin Diesel, F. Gary Gray, and the whole gang simply received a bunch of money and had a blast like five-year-old boys whose parents built them a race track for the first time and now they can play... maybe Fast and Furious. Yeah, it's nonsense, but this time so sincerely exaggerated that it's impossible not to enjoy. And Jason Statham confirms here that it's a pity Hollywood discovered his comedic talent too late. I had a good time. ()

English The quality of the Fast and Furious movies can be assessed, for example, according to which you remember. The first one is memorable because it was relatively cheap, down-to-earth and original. Everyone remembers the fifth one because it brought a proper boost and a leap up in quality, plus a lot of great directorial ideas and audience draws (The Rock, etc.). The rest blends together with only the really great highlights being memorable, whether good or not. The eighth episode is no different and thus falls into the category of nothing exceptional. None of the action scenes are really climactic (CGI mess doesn't automatically mean awesome), Charlize Theron, Jason Statham and co. are fine, but with that kind of acting potential to piss on cars in two or three scenes, get run over by a submarine and that’s it? Where are the full contact fights like The Rock vs Diesel, or Rodriguez vs Carano? Those were the highlights in the action, this one has nothing of the sort. All the flashy gimmicks don't cover up the lack of creative ideas, and the 250 million dollar visuals aren't going to make this a macho action ride. The family feeling continues, okay, the main characters are old enough for that, but the best scenes are not the action ones, and that’s not quite okey. ()

English The more obvious the complexity of the plot twists in which the gang has been throwing itself five installments in a row, the greater my excitement for the resulting film. Just a while ago, I was worried that there was nowhere to go, nowhere to build expectations, and nowhere for the characters to go. However, for a long time now, I have seen that none of this is necessary. Vin Diesel, from the position of the main face, incorporates all conceivable fan wishes into the scripts, including the dream (and surprisingly perfect) portrayal of the main antagonist. In the slower passages, he murmurs several phrases on the theme of "My Family" with an incomprehensible bass voice, and at the same time, he manages to come up with a surprise that no one expects (this time it is that stealer of scenes, Jason Statham). Various criticisms of physics or logic have never been more pointless. This saga operates in its own universe, and I will be happy if it continues at similar two-year intervals for a long time. ()

English If I had received this as a kid, it would very likely be my favorite movie and I would watch it again and again. It's definitely not surprising that this franchise has been growing more and more into a bigger sci-fi after the relatively grounded fifth installment, and you really can't label it any other way now. I could still handle the heavenly eye from the previous film, but this part easily surpassed that mark twofold. I didn't quite expect it, but I could have assumed it, yet I still can't understand why the furious eight completely bored me in terms of the story. Chris Morgan has completely given up on any plot twists anchored in reality and started parodying himself. I just have to write it clearly here. THE SCRIPT IS ABSOLUTELY MESSED UP. I was regularly amazed at what each character could come up with and consider it normal. Practically in every situation, I thought I would use a different turn of phrase that would make at least some sense, and then I thought this new character was written in after watching a successful Venezuelan soap opera, and has no business being here. Yes, I'll go for it a second time and I'll be reconciled with this...however, it is necessary to realize how far ahead F. Gary Gray is compared to James Wan. There is practically nothing to criticize about the direction. Gray is solid in his elements, absolutely flawless in action scenes, and skillfully manages to merge the hectic music into the pace of fast cars. Finally, I can say that I've seen this in him before with Italian Job, which I've seen at least twenty times. I also check off the item that is absolutely the best in the film. Which are the hand-to-hand battles. These are two levels above any car chase (or rather car-submarine and the whole massive finale). The prison scene is a sequence that I may not have seen before. The Rock had much more time in the role than in the seventh installment and really let loose here, to the point where my buddy and I said that this isn't even from injured B movie waters, but somewhere further back...however, so unbelievably entertaining that I can't wait to see it again. And then of course I save Jason Statham. He apparently only has one film this year, and last year he also had only Mechanic, but if he prepared for this role, I can forgive him. Absolutely every scene with him is incredibly unbelievable in various ways, and I strongly recommend not to watch individual TV spots, the surprise in the cinema is then even more pleasant. And to not stretch it unnecessarily, I will briefly mention the negative side. The Diesel subplot burned out from the first trailer is of course one big bullshit, which I don't mean as a spoiler, but there was practically only one way why something like this could happen. Charlize Theron will not be remembered for her role as a villain, she is suitably cold, sexy, has dreads, and can rage beautifully, but that's about it. And the worst part is her bearded henchman from GoT, who doesn’t have a single scene where he could stand out and most of the time just looks angry and is generally out of place. And that's about it. The series is definitely not exhausted, once again traveling around the world and to places where the series has not yet been (New York and the beautiful unexplored Cuba), and suddenly the planned new trilogy seems all the more real. PS : Zombie Cars. When you see it, at that moment you don't really know what ridiculous stuff from the 80s you are watching...8/10 () (less) (more)

English The Fast and Furious brand isn’t about cars like it used to. It’s not about the races or the smell of burnt tires anymore. Now it’s a brand ensuring high-quality action orgies that may be as dumb as a doorknob, but they have bigger balls than an elephant does. Moreover, they have such a solid casting of action movie actors that I feel like they’ve created a sequel to The Expendables. Personally, I liked Jason Statham the most. He has found himself in his recent roles and he had some amazing lines here. The monstrous actor The Rock comes close second and the entire rest of them follows, including Charlize Theron who was pretty sickening as a villain. ()
