Dax Shepard writes, directs and stars in this US action comedy, based on the 1970s TV series, which follows the lives of two highway patrol officers in LA. Maverick FBI agent Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello (Michael Peña) is sent undercover to serve in the California Highway Patrol and is partnered with rookie Jon Baker (Shepard), a former stunt rider who has joined the CHP in an attempt to save his marriage. Ponch has been assigned to investigate a series of multimillion-dollar highway heists that have claimed the lives of some of his fellow officers, and suspects they may have been inside jobs. Together, the pair try to crack the case but not without some calamities and much-needed bonding along the way. (Warner Bros. Home Entertainment)

Michael Peña and Dax Shepard are brutally overacting here. They are playing at the classic buddy cop action comedy which hasn’t really been here for a long time. But the problem is that even though the technical aspect of the action scenes is spot on, the relationship of the two idiots really didn’t work here. Michael portrays an idiot; Dax portrays an idiot. Michael is at least a tiny bit funny but when they are together it simply doesn’t work. ()
I like buddy movies, but with this one, I felt that the buddy element doesn't really work and that the characters are somewhat forcibly thrust into it, relying only on clichés, occasionally seasoned with quite harsh injuries that help the film along. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes not at all. And the story is one big cliché. ()
A pretty okay action comedy with a funny Michael Peña and a weird Dax Shepard that didn't sit well with me. The movie goes by fast, it's funny, but the jokes were a bit too few for my taste. 55% ()
