Very good ghost horror. Perfect direction, very good actors. ()
“How did you die, Joseph? Did you die in this house? Why do you remain?” A classic haunted house film with a detective tail that can send chills down your spine in such a way that contemporary ghost stories rolling off production lines should humbly take notes (the second act of the balloon pusher, a séance with automatic writing). A plus is that George C. Scott serves as a reliable bridge between the rational and the supernatural. Note: Perhaps it was for the sake of the plot, or maybe it’s because they’ve practically disappeared, but I was a bit surprised by how many phone booths were everywhere. ()
If it hadn't got so bogged down in the second half explaining to the viewer the facts that are already clear to the characters, I wouldn't have hesitated to give it a full rating. ()
