I really can’t figure out what made Arsenic and Old Lace so popular. This, for example, is just a perfectly ordinary Hallmark Hall of Fame production and there’s nothing special about it at all. Perhaps just the cast. Yet Karloff is bland on TV, and Voskovec is a caricature of what was already too much even for a cadre like Petr Lorre in the 1940s. ()
