An illogical, inconsistent and unfortunately wasted film chance in the manner of the far superior Ex Machina. A film about two actors has to have really good actors who will pull the viewer in and not let them get bored, but the two leads in Tau are unfortunately just mediocre. The craftsmanship, effects and visuals were top notch, thumbs up for that, but the theme of an AI that is supposed to be the most advanced robot that also acts like a sensitive and emotional teenager somehow didn't quite make sense. Not to mention the very stupid and fearless behavior of the main character, Julia. A misstep by Netflix with this one in my opinion, but the visuals keep it at least on the edge of watchability. ()
When watching this movie, I recalled three laws of robotics by Isaac Asimov and thought how nice it is that they get broken a bit in this movie. What else would movies be about, if that wasn’t the case? Another solid little sci-fi from Netflix production. Don’t expect any miracles, but given the subject matter it’s definitely not bad. ()
