Out of Africa follows the true life story of Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep), an amazingly strong willed woman who moves from Denmark to run a coffee plantation with her philandering husband (Klaus Maria Brandauer) in Kenya around 1914. To her astonishment she soon discovers herself falling in love with the land, its people and a mysterious adventurer and idealist (Robert Redford). Winner of 7 Academy Awards® including Best Picture, the film is masterfully crafted and breathtakingly produced to deliver one of the screen's greatest ever epic stories of hardship and love. English Everything Baz Luhrmann's Australia wanted to be twenty-three years later, and everything it ultimately wasn't for a moment. A Hollywood epic in the best possible sense of the word. ()

English The accent that Meryl speaks in here is really terrible and I just don't get this American craving for accents. It doesn't matter if she speaks English or weird English, she still speaks English... Robert Redford is classically great, but the best thing about this film is simply Africa. That's what it's about, and the rest is just filler. ()

English Out of Africa is one of those films that’s probably impossible to rate badly. Although I was not personally captivated by it and it took me quite a while to feel comfortable with its slow pace, the love story had its charm and I finished it without any problems. Moreover, with actors like Streep and Redford, Sydney Pollack's harmonious and precise direction, and the breathtaking and romantic setting of Africa, everything sounds somehow more real, more loving and sad. 80% ()

English Beautiful shots of Africa are alternating with at times infantile behavior of Meryl Streep, trapped in a vicious love circle.  However, due to the fairytale-like impression, beautiful shots of Africa, beautiful music and epic ending, Out of Africa really belongs to the golden fund of cinematography. English Beautiful in its exteriors, music, screenplay, and the tangible chemistry of the main couple. That said, it is also slightly diluted in unnecessary side plots that harm the urgency of the present feeling. Still, thanks to the airplane scene, the hair washing scene, and "I want you so badly", an unforgettable achievement with a nostalgic resonance that has changed my thinking over time. ()
