Jack Black is at his comic best as Ignacio, a disrespected cook at a Mexican monastery that can barely afford to feed the orphans who live there. Inspired by a local wrestling hero, he decides to moonlight as the not-so-famous Luchador "Nacho Libre" to earn money for the monastery -- not to mention the admiration of beautiful nun Sister Encarnacion. If Jack Black tried in this film, then all the other factors worked against him. I read somewhere that Nacho Libre is a comedy, but there must have been a mistake because the film isn't funny at all. On the contrary, the positive moments are more serious in tone. Jack Black plays a monk who "cooks" in a monastery, but his dream is to become a wrestler, which goes against the church’s rules. However, you can’t deny the heart, and thus Nacho Libre is born, a wrestler who wants to give to the poor. Sure, it’s not original. Personally, I love wrestling, but there isn't much of it here, as the only match worth mentioning is the final one. Moreover, in this regard, the creators didn't put in much effort and simply don't have anything extra to offer. They get caught up in stereotypes, trying to be absurd but only coming off as awkward. Jared Hess attempts a different kind of comedy but forgets to actually make it comedic and instead just produces something that’s somewhat different. ()
