When I saw “historical film” and “China,” I was expecting the usual—an epic, grand-scale production. But that’s not what I got. Instead, the movie was filled with some pretty terrible and uninspired effects, and the action scenes weren’t much better. The only thing that really kept it afloat was Hua Mulan’s tactical genius, which thankfully added some depth to the whole thing.
