Onami (Setsuko Hara) has a good-for-nothing brother, Hirotaro, who spends most of his time in gambling parlors and bars. One day, Hirotaro, steals a knife from a samurai and pawns it for some drinking money. Onami bursts into Kochiyama's (Chojuro Kawarasaki) bar searching for her brother, but can not find him. Seeing the desperation in her eyes, Kochiyama decides to join her in the search, but they find leads to a tragic destiny. (Nikkatsu)
