Funnier than The Nutty Professor? Yes. Good movie? Unfortunately, no. ()
In my opinion, if you want to do comedy, you should have a sense of humor. I guess nobody told the makers of this movie that, unfortunately. On the other hand, Eddie Murphy is a good actor and there were some good bits at times... hence the 2 stars. ()
The problem with most films starring Eddie Murphy is his very presence. His grimaces and gestures have long been clichés, so his performance is not that funny and any memory of him fizzles out like steam over a pot by the end. The premise isn't bad at all, the effects are decent, and Gabrielle Union is adorable. The rest is rather below average. In short, imaginative, occasionally funny, but terribly predictable and the acting is pretty weak. ()
