I laughed less than I expected, but I laughed, which is a pretty important thing in a comedy. Have you really properly watched Star Wars - the original episodes? If so, definitely give Fanboys a watch. And have fun. You'll be delighted with the references to these films (not just quoting lines, but entire scenes - the visit to the pub, for example), cameo appearances by "Lando Calrissian" and "Princess Leia" and others (where the hell is Mark Hamill?), skirmishes with Star Trek fans (William "Kirk" Shatner also appears)... There's quite a lot, but there could still be more. The Millennium Falcon "van" is a great ride, Lucas' ranch is awesome (I'd break in there in a heartbeat) and the gem of it all was the final catchphrase. Above average. ()
I'm not a fan of Star Wars or Star Trek, but I had a few decent laughs. Dan Fogler is a fine comedian, but all in all a silly and average comedy. 60% ()
Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny, only instead of heavy metal, this time Star Wars. The whole pop-culture baloney is not merely self-serving, but it creates a superstructure for a classic movie about friendship and growing up. And a darn stable and, more importantly, funny spin-off for a person who genuinely does not give a damn about Star Wars. Strongly reminiscent of Galaxy Quest. The cameos are awesome, frequent (actually, maybe a little too frequent, which is a bit counterproductive) and, in most cases, spot on. Insensitive cutting is extremely visible, especially in the middle, and so the continuity doesn’t hold up so well, but it doesn’t really matter. But still, by the end I started to feel that I’d had enough. ()
Fans of Star Wars recognize each other and will be happy. Trekkies recognize each other, get offended, and eventually they will be happy too. Because Fanboys bring a ride straight from Kevin Smith's workshop and along with that, treats like geeky versions of Kristen Bell or an arrogant William Shatner. And even though I don't belong to either of these groups, I enjoy their sense of humor even more. And don't forget: Nobody calls Han Solo a bitch. ()
