I often wonder why people invent complicated adventurous stories when life itself provides countless experiences and there is no need to embellish them. The mutiny on the ship The Bounty is the most famous naval mutiny in human history and as such, it has appeared on the big screen several times. I consider this adaptation to be the most successful mainly because it does not ride the wave of cheap romance and colorful emotions, but instead strives for the most realistic portrayal with well-developed characters and motivation derived from logic. The events on the ship are simply believable, yet the story doesn't lose any tension or captivation. Furthermore, this film is underrated, which is especially painful compared to the older version starring Marlon Brando in the lead role, where sentimental memories work for the glorification of this old film with ridiculously black and white characters and an unbelievable conception. It may not be a solid 5 stars, but in this case, I gladly turn a blind eye. A grand film with an excellent cast and the corresponding performances. Overall impression: 90%. ()
The lavish production design, Gibson and Hopkins, and Vangelis's music make this historical drama a very watchable affair. Some people got bored, others enjoyed. I am among the latter. ()
