The girls exaggerate a bit with all this crazy smiles and grimaces, but I can't deny that they will make you laugh and certainly touch your nerve. Even though it´s unbalanced in terms of the quality of the individual episodes and the quality of the humor and gags, but when it's funny, it's really funny. But at the same time, the main heroine is annoying, many characters serve purely for the purpose of overusing the same joke over and over again (grandpa, dad, the-guy- who-is-definitely-not-gay ... actually, all male characters). On the contrary, many funny and central characters are unnecessarily sidelined (led by the chief nurse). The biggest mistake is that it does not more often go into the area of mixing adolescent carefree comedy and seriousness. The environment, the situation and the time of the events are simply created for this purpose. It was done very well only a few times (the end of the first series was best); however, these moments are without exception the best moments of the whole series. And the season follows this trend, fortunately, and is therefore substantially better / more balanced. | S1: 3/5 | S2: 4/5 | ()
1st season Absolutely unique in terms of style, it took me a while to get used to everything. On the other hand, I couldn't tear myself away from it and kept devouring the crazy Irish accent and affected excesses of all the characters. The story takes place against the backdrop of the Northern Irish troubles, so here and there some negative emotions flash by. It was indeed a tough nut to crack when I didn't have Czech subtitles yet, but it's a very unique and original comedy series. Anyway, considering the storyline, I still reserve a few stars for the second season. 2nd season Where the first season lagged a bit, the second season excels, cranking up the humor to the max and the characters are even more unbelievable than before. I laughed almost the entire time and the dialogues are one hundred percent sharper. I hope to encounter these Irish Scream Queens for a few more years. The quality of the 3rd season varied from episode to episode because I felt that in terms of the storyline, it no longer had a chance to have any consistency, so we are flying in all directions. The episode on the train was really great, and the penultimate one surprised me with its depressive tone. In the end, I am rather sad that Derry Girls is ending, but the finale was really touching and impressive, and the third season generally targeted a wide range of viewer emotions, and I will miss it in a while. The quality of Derry Girls had an increasing tendency unlike many other shows. While Season 1 still had its awkward moments, Season 2 was already on track, and Season 3 didn’t spoil my good impression in any way. What I find strange is that all three of my favorite characters were actually supporting roles, and I liked them from the opening episodes to the very end. The central five were a good combination of characters, but they just couldn't compare to Sister Michael, Garry, and Joe. Those three set the bar high and never once lowered it. The show perfectly blends humor with some pretty serious matters, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. / Lesson learned: Politics, religion, war. Can they be used to make an equation? ()
