Donald Mowat

Donald Mowat is one of the film industry’s most sought-after makeup artists. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec Canada, to British parents Thomas Mowat and Flora MacDonald, he has served as makeup designer/makeup department head on such films as Damien Chazelle’s “First Man,” Tom Ford's “Nocturnal Animals,” Denis Villeneuve's “Blade Runner 2049,” “Prisoners” and “Sicario,” “Nightcrawler,” “8 Mile” and “The Fighter,” and as personal makeup artist to Daniel Craig on “Spectre” and “Skyfall.”

With a career that spans over 30 years, Mowat is a longtime member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, The European Film Academy, IATSE, Hollywood Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild and BECTU UK.

Mowat has received numerous award nominations over the course of his career. He was recognized for his work on “Blade Runner 2049” in 2018, with both BAFTA and MUAHS Guild Award nominations. His other honors include a BAFTA nomination and MUAHS Guild Award win for Tom Ford's “Nocturnal Animals” in 2017, Saturn and MUAHS Artisan Award wins for “Prisoners” in 2014, and a Primetime Emmy Award win for “Enchantment - Mark Twain and Me” in 1992.

In December of 2018, Mowat was awarded with Canada’s Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers for his work with BAFTA-LA. In 2012, he was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his service to the film industry and as a former Board Director of The Actors' Fund of Canada 2008-2014.

An exemplary leader, educator and mentor through his many volunteer speaking engagements with aspiring entertainment professionals at Pixar University, CMU College of Makeup Art & Design, Toronto, BAFTA Scotland, BAFTA X BFI London and Bolton, University Manchester, Mowat continues to volunteer and mentor in the U.K. Canada and The USA.
