The 70s were a time of exploration and experimentation in European cinema, during which a number of interesting films were created that shouldn't really have been made in the harsh market environment. Lunatics and Lovers is a film with a Fellini-like atmosphere and special poetics, which would be more suitable for a film festival than for film distribution. The main character is a peculiar aristocrat brilliantly played by experienced Marcello Mastroianni. He suffers from loneliness, so he creates the ideal partner who never refuses him and doesn't burden his budget in any way. His ideal becomes a reality when he brings a musician to his residence, who, out of gratitude, convinces a prostitute to fulfill the nobleman's visions and desires for one night. However, the new Countess begins to take her role seriously and doesn't want to leave the good living conditions at all. She is able to assert her down-to-earth ideals with unexpected energy, and soon both men are overwhelmed by her... Overall impression: 75%. ()
