A recent blockbuster in China, this free-wheeling fantasy adventure is an action-packed romp, blending Raiders of the Lost Ark and Tomb Raider clichés with Chinese legend. Chen Kun, Shu Qi and Huang Bo star as three legendary 'Mojin Xiaowei' tomb raiders who find themselves reunited when a cult leader hires them to return to the location of their last mission, a remote Mongolian spot where an old love was lost and protected by zombie troops. Once the action begins it is a non-stop thrill ride. (Edinburgh International Film Festival)

This movie certainly isn't amazing, although it must be acknowledged that in the somewhat horror-like scenes, it is visually very well done. Otherwise, it's a fairly standard variation of Indiana Jones, with the obvious requirement for a happy ending, and a bit of darkness redeemed by the light at the end of the tunnel. As afternoon entertainment, though, it's quite enjoyable. ()
A high-budget horror film with nice visuals that also earned its keep, but unfortunately it's such a fun fairy tale. Due to the PG-13 rating, we don't get to see the gore, and there are quite a few zombies, but I liked the unadorned setting, which is very unusual for a horror film these days. I also liked the well-known actress Qi Shu, who is as adorable as ever. Funny, likeable, far-fetched in places, but good for a laugh. 60%. ()
