Pennere, I love you in Survivor, but stop writing horror scripts. Or like this. It would be quite good to have a more A-list director take over. I can imagine what could evolve from Bye Bye Man if Wan got his hands on it. Even just that initial scene was not bad at all, it really intrigued me because of its brutality and mastery, especially led by Leigh Whannell. However, I really didn't like the choice of main actors. Specifically, the girls and the black guy. Moving on to the atmosphere, at least I appreciate the slight effort, but this cannot be said about the antagonist. I felt so indifferent about him and he didn't evoke any fear in me, which is not nice. Occasionally, there was a successful hallucination, but the antagonist is really the biggest minus here. Another downside is that you don't have much chance to empathize with the characters because they are just completely soulless. So in the end, you basically don't care how it turned out. ()
I was hoping that The Bye Bye Man would be a little scarier, a little more memorable, but I found the opening ramblings of the young people to be very awkward and clichéd. Then the plot started to pick up a bit, a demon appeared, and there were a few good scenes, but in the end, despite the well-established horror, they failed to make a good film, and I left with more disappointment than fulfillment due to the excessive plot. The presence of actresses like Faye Dunaway and Carrie-Anne Moss was a delight. ()
B movies horror films, of which there are still plenty here, but I do enjoy them once in a while. Bye Bye Man (aka Hidden Evil wtf?) is a case of a completely sterile and unexciting horror thriller that works well for crowds, especially those partially intoxicated, but nothing more can be expected. The main trio are relatively unsympathetic characters, played by actors that probably no one knows (a classic pretty girl, that we are most afraid of, is not missing), the evil comes up with unsurprising twists, which, however, occasionally surprise with their uncompromising brutality and after the final credits, typically fade into the distance.
