Well, I don’t know what exactly was that, but I think I liked it. A perfectly executed horror film with a character of its own and many scary, almost surreal scenes, but if I take it all around, the expectations were a tad higher due to the great trailer. In the individual scenes, Baskin is pure horror in the truest sense of the word, with a tangible terrifying atmosphere, great gore and excellent make up and visual style. But for Evrenol, the director, a simple story about police officers that come across a black mass wasn’t enough and he tried to turn the thing up a notch, with not fully convincing results. Was the ending really as banal as I think, or is there something else? I don’t know. In any case, it’s a film every fan should watch and form their own opinion. I’m not able to say who will like it or not. For me right now 7/10, but I might give it another point later. ()
I was looking forward to Baskin like I used to as a child to a horror fun house. Well, I quickly got sobered up again. The plot seemed really pointless to me, it started to get interesting only from the forty-fifth minute and then it quickly passed. What I can praise are the costumes and masks, which were obviously well done, but I would scratch that aging baby. I can't say that I didn't like the Turkish vision of hell, anyway it just really could have had a better idea, better momentum. Over time, this turned into a horror mess with good music similar to It Follows. And they could have left out that ending too. And by the way, Turks have a really disgusting sense of humor. ()
I have very mixed feelings about one of my most anticipated horror films this year. The trailer unfortunately captivated me too much that the film itself seems lacklustre in places. Nothing of substance happens for 50 minutes and it was only when I entered hell that a smile was put on my face, as the atmosphere is thick as fog accompanied by very snazzy music, beautiful make-up effects and ubiquitous filth. We don't get much gore, which is a shame, but certain scenes are heavenly. A reluctant 65% for the interesting ending and the master of hell, who was such a disgusting wrinkly Turk that I will strongly consider my next visit to a kebab shop. ()
