I really liked the first installment, and the third also entertained me quite a bit, but the second one is weak for me, where it just repeats what happened in the first film and surprisingly isn't as funny anymore. Some characters, even the main ones, seem more annoying to me than any others. I don't think I'm gonna do this again. I have Madagascar somehow linked with the Ice Age, and I have to say I generally prefer that series more. ()
In every way better than the first film. Less infantile, funnier for adults, better animated and (at least in the first half) a less predictable cartoon with the spirit of classic animated cartoons. The monkey unionists bidding on penguins had me laughing to tears, but this time it wasn't just one of several hilarious jokes - this time it was one of many. ()
The screenplay resigned itself to just hints of a complex story, favorite characters are given more space at any cost, and humorous elements play with both the primary and secondary layers. And thanks to that, this works a whole level better than the first installment. Although the sequel to Madagascar is perhaps in all respects a pure calculation, the penguins and lemurs make people laugh, the zebra crowd cracks you up like mad, and the favorite hypochondriac side of the desperate Melman does not fall behind. If the unbearable and embarrassingly unfunny action grandma hadn't shown up, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa could aspire to enter the group of truly successful animated films. Without the empty references like "the circle of life", which was annoying in the first installment, it really wasn't far from that. ()
A little better and funnier than the first one. The story is still very childish, and although there are a lot of new characters, the original four and the penguins in particular, who are true masters of supporting roles, continue to be the driving forces. Moreover, whether it wants it or not, it looks like a blatant rip-off of The Lion King, which is especially disappointing considering that that film was much more enjoyable to watch and had a lot to say to adults... Madagaskar 2 would never be able to do that. 60% ()
The freshness and novelty of the first one is a bit lacking in the second Madagascar, but it is still a watchable sequel. What hurts the film the most is that pushes too hard on the humour. especially in the characters of the aggressive NY grannies and the lion villain. The sequel deals more with the relationships within the central four characters, which makes for some more serious scenes. The biggest portion of fun is again provided by the penguins, and last but not least by (the immortal) Mort. ()
