Ecuadorin viidakossa vedet ovat veren saastuttamia. Monikansallisen jättiyrityksen epäpyhä liitto verenhimoisen sotilashallituksen kanssa on johtanut verilöylyyn. Ainoastaan kapinallinen Francisco Franco (Forest Whitaker) ja hänen määrätietoinen vaimonsa Mia (Eva Longoria) voivat todistaa rikoksen. Korvatakseen henkilökohtaisen velan entinen CIAagentti Jack Begosian (Andy García) ottaa tehtäväkseen pelastaa Francisco ja vaarantaa kaiken julmassa taistelussa salailun paljastamiseksi. Truth. What is truth, really? Are we ready for the truth? Truth is generally a theme that is often portrayed and discussed in films. The film The Truth probably thought it would be groundbreaking in some way, but I struggle to think of any reason why it should be. When you watch the film, you won't see anything special about it. Yes, it tells the story of horrific events that took place somewhere in South America, but such events happen elsewhere in the world too. Just think of the film Waltz with Bashir, which I also wrote about recently. That's just how it is. Terrifying things happen, whether real or partially or completely fictional. In The Truth, hiding in the forest seems like a rather boring affair, as if people are just preparing for the moment when they will be taken down. When that happens, you sadly yawn. The film can't possibly be that boring when it’s about the murder of innocent victims! Yet The Truth manages to do just that. Andy Garcia delivers a fairly decent performance, but his role is so strange that it doesn't save the film. A CIA agent - former, I must point out - who has his own radio show where he wants to talk about the truth. When needed, he is able to jump back into action and essentially take on an army by himself. Just strange. Forest Whitaker doesn't really have anything to do, while Eva Longoria just flits by and still looks good. A film that thinks it's about something, but in the end, it’s really just about nothing. What good is truth when it's presented in a way that no one cares about? ()
