The White Lotus - Série 1

White Lotus is an unorthodox series that is literally strange and different in every way, and yet (or maybe because of it) it's a hit series that has no rivals. The uniquely constructed story of a few people in a hotel gives all the characters room to shine and develop fabulously throughout, each one is simply their own and unique, perfectly written and their performances are very good (Alexandra Daddario clearly leads the way!!). The cinematography is spot on and has some haunting and daring shots in places (shitting in a suitcase, the boss's practices in his office…), which, along with the haunting music, contribute to the end result in a big way; and the script, which is very ordinary at its core yet an utterly bizarre mindfuck in the details, is so great and gripping that six episodes was not enough for me and I want more right now. The final episode took a slightly different path than I had hoped, but it still brought the series to a glorious conclusion and the result is so worth it. No reservations. (08.01.2023)

An uncompromising critique of everything and everyone. Critics, supporters, men, women, straightforward, fake, none are spared from Mike White and his ironic commentary on the current world. At some point, everyone wins or loses to some extent, because in life, you have to lose at least once. I will remember most fondly the tour de force performance from Murray Bartlett, whose chameleonic Armond keeps popping up in my memory even several months after watching. In the end, what holds me back from giving it the highest rating is the amount of space given to Shane. I understand the point of his storyline, but Jake Lacy is once again the king of unappealing characters just like in Girls. And what about you? Can you get the Hawaiian soundtrack full of "peekaboo" out of your head? (23.09.2022)

The first season had a languid pace throughout, which sums up all the negatives. The script brought such bizarre yet common characters onto the stage that I actually didn't care about the slow narrative style. These people were toxic, to put it in one word. However, I don't really like this expression (because it's used too often nowadays, especially for those who disagree with the mainstream). It perfectly fit this lineup, though. The negative energy was almost palpable. Well, it was an unexpected and welcome experience with a perfect soundtrack. 4*+ (08.05.2023)

A great phenomenon in certain circles, which fits perfectly with the HBO brand and I am glad I finally caught up with it too. A superbly written sunlit (albeit with strangely vomited colors) probe into the souls of a certain kind of people, where everyone will probably find their favorite and it won't be generally about one key family. What The Bear is to restaurants, The White Lotus is to hotels. Both are in the industry for me, so it's definitely an issue that's very close to my heart, plus it's all set in Hawaii and it's nicely exotic. But it's more drama than comedy, though some there are some entertaining black-humored. The cast is great the clash of the Hollywood boobies with Alexandra Daddario and Sydney Sweeney is real eye-candy, the director was very crazy, the twists and turns and the nicely escalated relationships on all sides are good, and who ends up being in the casket, I really didn't expect. I was expecting a more bizarre choice of characters though, after all, I know from the hotel business that you run into all sorts of weirdos, and these ones were even normal compared to reality, and they also could have pointed out the guests' complaints more, but otherwise I'm cool, it flows very well. 75% (24.04.2024)
