Set on the Greek island of Rhodes, HIGH SEASON follows the lives of nine separate characters. Katherine and her husband Patrick live in a small island town with their 13-year-old daughter Chloe, and even though Kath and Patrick have separated, they have both stayed on. Katherine works as photographer and Patrick works as a sculptor. Katherine, however, is in desperate need of money, and is trying to sell an antique vase given to her many years earlier by an elderly art historian, Basil, who arrives for a visit. Katherine's widowed friend Penelope regards the tourists as enemies, and battles with her son Yanni, who appreciates the prosperity the tourists bring. Rick, a practical-minded Englishman, becomes smitten with Katherine, despite being married to Carol. Katherine gets lucky when Konstantinis, a wealthy Greek-American, decides that he wants to buy her vase, but first it must be declared a fake so that he can take it out of Greece. I only watched this movie because I was sick at home and I read that it takes place in Rhodes. I still think that Rhodes was one of the most beautiful seaside vacations I’ve ever been to and so I thought I could take a trip down memory lane. It was nice that I even recognized some of the places. However, the big mess-up was the fact that the English tried to be funny in the 1980s and so they created something I can’t even call “a movie”. It’s more of a mishmash of nonsense and pretty island footage. ()
