Touching drama involving a single mother of two boys who falls blindly in love with a charming yet enigmatic man. Firstborn est un thriller familial au début prometteur qui repose sur l’excellent Peter Weller, lequel sait comment s’approprier un film, tant dans les rôles positifs ou négatifs, et pourtant l’ensemble s’échoue sur un final assez conservateur. Les créateurs auraient dû enfoncer le clou pour que l’aspect horrifique soit plus intense, ce qui aurait pu en faire un classique. Ici, on a simplement un drame bien foutu qui, pour beaucoup, sera intéressant pour ses rôles secondaires incarnés par le jeune Robert Downey Jr. et Sarah Jessica Parker plus que pour son suspense correct et la bonne intégration du thème de la dislocation de la famille dysfonctionnelle.
