If you thought there is some amazing footage in BBC documentaries (and there's undoubtedly is), wait till you see Our Planet. It's a breathtaking series from start to finish, a fascinating spectacle full of unique scenes that, thanks to its perfect shots, editing, and music, have the kind of charge that trumps any great film. But at the same time, it's a stark warning. After all, what better way to show how beauty is in danger of being lost than by celebrating it? You will be amazed to see scenes of successful and unsuccessful hunting or wooing, you will be fascinated by how and what nature can cope with, you will be amazed by the vastness of ice, grass, or desert plains... And then you will learn that they are not so vast on a global scale, that the huge herds and flocks are also rather exceptional, that man is just an asshole, yet it is not he who pays for it, but his surroundings. But despite the gloomy mood that must necessarily prevail in every episode, there is also optimism in the end – the hope that we can start to behave differently, properly, and preferably in a way that doesn't poke our noses too hard at nature, which will hopefully shake off what we've done. Everyone should see this series. ()
I have never systematically watched all the episodes of some geographical documentary, but Our (Blue) Planet is definitely worth it. Beautifully shot, time-lapse captured enchanting shots from the most intimate moments of animals from continents around the world, leaving you breathless. And of course, once again with the immortal voice-over of David Attenborough, who critically assesses the constant disappearance of all kinds of natural beauties... 90% ()
This is the most beautiful of all beauty, no one could ever possibly get tired of it. It's good to be reminded of what a beautiful planet we live on while we deal with the joys and worries of our everyday world. Fascinating shots, lovely music, and David Attenborough's charismatic voice. His concerns for planet Earth are not at the very forefront of this series, but he does of course mention them. And I think that's only fitting. ()
