Edgar Rice Burroughs became famous as the author of "Tarzan" and "A Princess of Mars." The first film based on his novel was made in 1917, an adaptation of the magazine series The Lad and the Lion (1917), and the history of his Tarzan films and (film) series began to be written the very next year. By the end of the silent era, 8 Tarzan projects had been made. By 1921, there were three films and two series that covered many of Tarzan's adventures, including those of his son. It is therefore not difficult to understand that the next big film, Tarzan and the Golden Lion, made after a minor hiatus for 1927, did not look to the beginning of the entire phenomenon, but chose the 9th novel of the same name (published in book form in 1923) as a model. Tarzan was played by James Pierce, who made a fortune after the film as the husband of Burroughs' daughter Joan, alongside whom he then went on to star as Tarzan in a radio series in the 1930s (Joan, of course, played Jane). Tarzan's sister Betty and her Jack Bradley also have big parts in this film, which is great. In addition, the actors are accompanied by well-trained animals. All in all, it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Brilliant costumes, suspense, flawless cast (Edna Murphy, Dorothy Dunbar, Boris Karloff under a layer of make-up). Audiences of the time couldn't get enough of such a good experience and so in the following years they got two new series, Tarzan the Mighty (1928), Tarzan the Tiger (1929), and then came the Tarzan with sound.
