The Heart of a Queen is the story of Mary, Queen of Scots. This is the third time we see Leander paired with Willy Birgel, her best film partner. Naturally, in the early years of the war, when the film was being prepared, it was necessary to include (as in the case of Titanic) almost imperceptible anti-British propaganda. But if this is wedged into a 16th-century historical film, it is no more harmful outside of wartime screenings than any other historical film made in peacetime. Every country suffers from a "natural" desire to tell history from the position of the victors. In the context of a film with Leander, the great costly set design and the overall visual component, which is contoured by some wonderful musical interludes, are far more noteworthy. ()
