Neil Patrick Harris stars as Billy, A.K.A. Dr. Horrible, a budding super-villain whose plans for world domination continually go awry. His two goals: getting accepted into the Evil League of Evil, and working up the guts to speak to his laundromat crush Penny, played by Felicia Day. The only thing standing in his way is Captain Hammer, Billy's superhero arch-nemesis played by Nathan Fillion. With one big score, Billy could get into the E.L.E. and earn the respect of Penny, but only if he can keep her away from the dashing Captain Hammer... (forgalmazó hivatalos szövege)

A somewhat crazy musical flick, but also one that scores points on the scale of audience sympathy quite easily. N.P. Harris is an icon who hasn't (yet) become stale, and the singing numbers have such gusto and pour out such emotion that one begins to think of the seedy alleys of Montmartre in Paris. It's a good idea, but I can see it being stretched out to about a 5-part miniseries of a mere half-hour for each episode. Also, the deliberate "cheapness" (?) got on my nerves at times. ()
This series slowly (and very much so) rolled to an excellently executed conclusion. The interesting lyrics and the delivery of the songs, especially by Neil Patrick Harris, are a strong and supporting pillar of the series. At first I was going to give it 3* at most, but as I said ... the ending fixed it. ()
One of the key issues I had while watching this miniseries was the fact that I have never liked musicals, especially modern ones. Throughout the whole time, I couldn't relate to any of the characters, and all three main protagonists were extremely unsympathetic to me. Those who love How I Met Your Mother must have been satisfied, but Neil Patrick Harris is definitely not on my list of favorite actors. Despite the very positive and even above-average reviews, I felt like I was in a bad dream. The intentional cheapness and stupid dialogues were quite painful for me. A few songs were quite funny, but the essence of this performance and its delivery left me very indifferent. After watching Dr. Horrible and reading several reviews, I felt like I was on a different planet. This really wasn't my cup of tea. ()
Really horrible. I know that it’s intentional, but unfortunately it isn’t funny. The only more promising moments are when they sing, when everything works as it should (primarily the intro and ending of episode two are quite perfect), but when they start speaking... How can I describe it? It’s hell. But still, only because Whedon was trying to do something original, I was bent on awarding it a positive score. But then came the last episode and my plan soon fell flat on its face. While in the episodes preceding it, you could see that they aren’t taking themselves seriously, pretending a great tragedy has occurred doesn’t work and comes across just dumb, more than anything else. ()
Is it possible to watch the ambitious villain, narcissistic superhero, and naive advocate for the rights of the homeless and still feel as good as when Joss Whedon lets me into his vampire universe? It is – especially when I can't stop singing the individual tunes and thinking about how everything can fit so perfectly together despite the completely atypical ending. The entertainment of a small group of people and a stroke of genius in one. Now the nightmare's real, now Doctor Horrible is here. ()
