(UIP-Duna Film)

A truly colourful animated film with an unmissable ecological subtext, which somehow pulls it out of the grey waters of mediocrity, because the bland script and lack of emotions (both humorous and serious) bring down the rating. Through the verses, at times it reminded me a lot of The Grinch, which comes from the same author, but in this case Christmas has been replaced with a plastic and "dead" world. ()
If someone were to do a "marathon" of films that included both Happy Feet movies and The Lorax, likely they would turn off the last film, vowing never to use anything that would require cutting down trees or cause glaciers to melt. Right after, they would open their old refrigerator, swat away some annoying bugs, toss a pile of flyers into the regular trash, and probably let the faucet drip as well. The Lorax is a bit like carrying coals to Newcastle; it's something that everyone ignores. How does the saying go? Casting pearls before swine? Adults aren’t interested in the film's strong ecological message; it might even annoy them, while for children, we can only hope they take away more than just that weird little toothless orange walrus. The film has a decent visual appeal, but most of the drawings and proportions of the world and trees have already been created by Dr. Seuss in his illustrated books. Seuss tackled various themes in his books, and in The Lorax, it is environmentalism. There’s no point in criticizing the film for being environmentally themed; that's the source material. The story isn't the most original, but the film includes jokes that are quite tolerable. I’ve seen worse animated films (like Shark Tale), and I think the film deserves at least an average rating. ()
