Perfection in itself. I can do historical films, but I don't seek them out. However, I had Braveheart in my sights for a long time. I neglected this three-hour war opus disgracefully long, but now I understand why Mel Gibson is so praised. He directed the film perfectly, but what's more, he played it even better, and as a viewer, I had no problem believing his role in any scene... a well-deserved success... 90% ()
Gibson already proved he can do it in his directorial debut, but this time he may have surprised himself. The choreography of the battle scenes is flawless and they are very naturalistic, with blood splashing everywhere, they draw the viewer into the vortex of the fight. Gibson is surefooted also in the intimate scenes and I'd say those Oscars are well deserved. ()
A phenomenal masterpiece and the best historical/war film I have ever seen. For historians, the character of the queen and the overall portrayal of the Scottish struggle may be a nightmare, but Mel Gibson's determined performance and the thrilling finale are unforgettable. ()
I thought that seeing this movie for the umpteenth time wouldn't have the same effect on me, but even this time it made the same impression. Mel Gibson made the film brilliantly, but I also think he played the character brilliantly. The way he sometimes acts with his face is unbelievable to me. Still 100% for me. ()
A war film the way it should be – pathetic, cheesy, historically untrustworthy. I mean, perfect. Mel Gibson in the role of Scottish insurgent William Wallace confirms that he does the great heroes well, the battle sequences are appropriately juicy and blood-soaked, the love-story appropriately tearful and the end as heroic as it should be. I just really like Braveheart, although I always laugh a little at Mr. Wallace's "philosophical" outbursts about freedom. It's a house of cards, but it's well built! ()
