When the boy who never grows up whisks the three Darling children - Wendy, John, and Michael - away to Never Land, they embark on an adventure they'll never forget. Never Land is full of adventures with mermaids, pixies, and crocodiles, but it's also home to the villainous pirate Captain Hook, who'll stop at nothing to defeat Peter and his crew of Lost Boys. It will take faith, hope, and a pinch of pixie dust, to win the day and bring the Darlings safely home. (officiële tekst van distribiteur)

Engels Seventy minutes of slapstick. And I like slapstick. While this is obviously not a common opinion, I think the Disney team managed to combine the frantic, idea-filled antics (like the absolutely brilliant Hook and Crocodile duels) with subtle moments (Wendy's song) and pure childlike adventure (the quest to find the Indians) in a very natural and balanced way, and created a spectacle. While it's aimed primarily at younger viewers, it's a treat for adults as well (and I'm not referring to all the sexy female characters from Tinkerbell to Wendy to the mermaids). ()

Engels This story is beautiful in its own right, and even though Disney avoided making it darker, which is a shame, it's still an excellent portrayal of this classic fairy tale that has never been fully appreciated where I live. It's a shame because Barrie shows how beautifully and nostalgically the world of a child can intertwine with the world of an adult. ()

Engels The 14th Disney Feature Film The tales of James Matthew Barrie from Neverland, about pirates and fairies and mermaids and kids who don't want to grow up are, in a word, magical. So much so, in fact, that they've earned their own series of derivative films to this day, and Tinkerbell herself is a heroine in her own series of fairy adventures. Disney's Peter Pan is a retelling of the classic "Peter and Wendy," in which we meet the Darling children in Edwardian-era London and accompany them on their journey to the magical island. Disney movies in the 1950s were at their peak and even if you find the boyish world of Peter Pan too distant, it's still a feast for the eyes thanks to the excellent animation. ()

Engels A typical product of Disney’s classic era, with a lot of gratuitous clowning and making faces, butchering of the imaginative source work into a conservative narrative, which from today’s perspective is at the very least problematic (with respect to racism and gender issues) in many of its motifs. Engels I had seen Spielberg's Hook and 2003's Peter Pan, which I rated with an average three stars, and I can't go any higher in the case of the original Disney classic. The Neverland tale of the Flying Boy, his wacky gang, the vengeful Hook, the incompetent Smee, and one gluttonous crocodile didn't wow me either, which is a shame considering the possibilities this fantasy world had to offer. I found the songs very bland and couldn't form any kind of relationship with any of the characters. If I want to go to Neverland, I'd rather reach for the feature film starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. ()
