Engels Your typically melancholic and brooding Weir. The story moves forward very slowly, almost nothing happens during those two hours, but subliminally, the film is very intense. It’s hard to express it in words, you should watch this unfairly forgotten film for yourselves. Jeff Bridges is naturally brilliant. ()

Engels Peter Weir gave Bridges the chance to play one of his best ever roles and Jeff took advantage of this to the full; Weir also offered a part to Rosie Perez that could have been the role of her lifetime, but she screwed it up as much as she could. Lots of powerful scenes just fizzle out with her. But I must say that in the moments founded purely on atmosphere and Jeff, this movie is incredibly powerful. ()

Engels After a lot of back and forth, I finally settled on giving this film four stars. What really pushed me was the ending—it’s absolutely stunning, a masterful piece of work by the director, composer, and screenwriter. That final scene is so powerful it almost makes you forget who the film is really about. You spend the entire movie following these stories, but it's Jeff Bridges at the heart of it all, even if it doesn’t hit you right away. This is a beautiful film about human emotions, particularly the fear of life itself, told in such a raw, relatable way that at times, I was genuinely afraid to see what would happen next. ()
