Biografia

Tian Zhuangzhuang studied at the Beijing Film Academy and went on to become one of the most prominent filmmakers of China cinema's so-called "fifth generation". He made his debut behind the camera in 1982 with Hong Xiang (The Red Elephant), co-directed with Xie Xiaojing and Zhang Jianya. Worthy of note in his filmography are works including Dao Ma Zei (The Horse Thief, 1986), Da taijian Li Lianying (The Last Eunuch, 1991), which received a special mention at Berlin; Lan feng zheng (The Blue Kite, 1993), winner at the Tokyo Festival, among other accolades, of the Grand Prix and Best Actress Award; Xiao cheng zhi chun (Springtime in a Small Town, 2002), San Marco Award at Venice; and Wu Qingyuan (The Go Master, 2006), Best Director and Best Cinematography Awards at the Shanghai Festival.
