In an ideal world, Lieutenant Tomas Kozak would spend his mornings with his family at home. But the early democratic Czech Republic is far from ideal. Kozak has recently transferred to the homicide department where the detectives are in close contact with the world of organised crime. And Tomas will have to delve deep into it already during his first investigation of a violent death. Based on real events from the Czech underworld, the story is complemented by archive footage. inglês According to an emeritus forecaster and collector, the series Nineties discredits the era. So I calmly declare that Václav Klaus should finally go fuck himself and take Filip, Babiš, Faltýnek and the whole castle gang with him. Hopefully, with the arrival of the next generations, perhaps no longer distorted by the opposition treaty and the godfather policy, we will see something better in the future. After all these years of helpless grinding of teeth, I think we deserve it. ()

inglês Great insight into how it looked in Czechia in the years when I was about to be born. The nineties were a bizarre decade to their core and Bebjak captured it quite well, I think. I had the advantage of only knowing those cases very briefly and at the same time the disadvantage because the narrative form and script were sometimes really confusing, with names flying around all the time. Maybe I would describe it as being overloaded with information and some parts were a bit lengthy. Simply put, if it were more punchy, faster, and shorter, I would probably be more satisfied, but otherwise, I can't complain. The acting was also very good, I was pleased with the young talent Kryštof Bartoš, who fit nicely into that role. ()

inglês I never really got into Nineties. If I used to look forward to new episodes of Major Case Squad, when it comes to the prequel, I couldn't help but be disappointed - especially in light of the enthusiasm that swept over viewers and the way Nineties dominated the media and social space. The curse of the Czech basin has been, is, and will be provincialism, which has a negative influence on Nineties in every aspect. This is not how the peak of television creation should look, but rather a run-of-the-mill average. Problematic editing, (below) average camera work, the inability to create and maintain atmosphere and suspense, and excessive dialogue. Nineties is not just retro in terms of theme and time frame, but the series looks like it was filmed in the mid-90s. The modern narrative methods and techniques that have influenced the development of global television in the last three decades have not yet been captured here. Would Danish, Swedish, or British television stations include Nineties in their broadcasts? Would they even air the series in prime time? I'm afraid that apart from Slovakia, no one in the world would bat an eye at Nineties. Just a brief note on Mareš's script: he failed to create a concentrated grand story from an otherwise explosive and attractive material, and an episodic style of work suits him better. Overall impression: 55%. ()
