Fools and Girls represents Kachyňa's second journey into the past of proletarian Žižkov. After Love Between the Raindrops set in the 1930s, Kachyňa has now moved in time to the 1950s. Yet in the lives of his film characters, he has returned from the period of adolescence and first loves to seemingly carefree childhood experienced among peculiar characters of local nonconforming guys, half-mad and completely mad. Kachyňa demonstrates his traditional sense of poetry and film atmosphere, although it does not reach the quality of Love Between the Raindrops. It is still above-average filmmaking that the vast majority of today's titles do not come close to. Overall impression: 75%. ()
