inglês The second season played it quite safe, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. Reuniting with old favorites after a year was a real treat; I’ve become incredibly fond of this crew, not just Billy Butcher and his gang but also the members of The Seven, especially the unbeatable Homelander. The plot didn’t captivate me as much as the first season did, which thrived on its element of surprise, emerging out of nowhere and quickly winning many fans over. Instead, I enjoyed the individual storylines in the second season, such as the one with Lamplighter (ironically played by the actor who portrayed Iceman in the X-Men universe) or the excellent new character Stormfront. In her best scenes, she came close to the brilliance of the series icon, the "You guys are the real heroes!" character :D. The action was again unparalleled, like the opening scene with Black Noir accompanied by a top-notch musical score—pure perfection. The soundtrack was genius, the performances were once again of the highest quality, and the finale was luxurious with an unexpected twist that will likely shake things up significantly in the third season. It’s just a small disappointment that the story didn’t try to make any revolutionary moves and stuck to the well-established and warmly received standard of the first season. For me, it’s 85%. ()

inglês Rather toned down compared to the comic book but, in terms of TV shows, this is still way better than what we’re used to. Season 2 is more serious, fatal and menacing… which is fine, but at the expense of humor. In the end, only the useless Deep and his sect remain. Homelander has lots of flashbacks. Starr is excellent. If it weren’t for a few complete lapses in logic, I would give it the highest marks. ()

inglês Another season of The Boys and another mockery of conventional superhero movies. The only difference is that it's not nearly as hard-hitting, surprising and fucked-up as the previous season, unfortunately the plot is almost identical, only the action is less. Occasionally we get a dose of proper gore (which is great), but unfortunately there is so little action that we don't get that much fighting or killing (about five minutes of action per episode on average...). The series is once again driven by the charismatic Karl Urban, who perhaps to his detriment doesn't get as much space as he once did, as well as the occasional dark humour and generally pretty bizarre scenes like superhero sex on the street, Homelander's masturbation on a skyscraper or a superhero with the ability to throw his 2m long dick like a rope and strangle people with it. The result is a kind of inoffensive average that is fun to watch and entertaining in acting and humour, but lacks a more interesting plot and more significant action, where, except for the final episode, it is too sparing with it. I'll probably still watch the third season, but it could use a bit of a revamp. ()

inglês Last season's winner on the series front is back, and once again, it's the biggest series splash of the year, and probably nothing will top it. The second season is more fateful, more heated, more emotional, it's packed with iconic scenes and adds a few new characters, with Storm Front in particular being the most intriguing, a sort of female version of Homelander who plays the uncompromising racist bitch to perfection. I found the lines with The Deep, A Train and Queen Maeve a bit annoying and not very interesting, while Black Noir has minimal space again, as all the attention is focused on Homelander, Starlight and Storm Front. Maybe we'll see some new faces in the third season. Butcher is classically the most entertaining of the good guys, and his famous “cunts” already carry a similar weight to Samuel L. Jackson's “motherfucker”. The best episode are the definitely the sixth, where we get a look at the madhouse and the weird experiments of the superheroes, and then of course the fateful finale, which is packed with emotion and a decent dose of a superhero brawl we all wanted to see. The Boys takes superheroes to the next level after The Avengers, it shows what it would probably look like if they lived among us. PS: If gore looked like this in horror movies, my horror heart would be happier. Story****, Action****, Humor****, Violence****, Entertainment*****, Music****, Visuals*****, Atmosphere****, Suspense****. 85%. ()

inglês I don’t think as highly of the second season as the first, because the quality was somewhat fluctuating until the fourth episode (including), so at times I was afraid I would be severely disappointed. It wasn’t the case. From the fifth episode on, it was one hell of a ride with blood splashing around, parts of human anatomy flying in various directions, and a good dose of cynicism and black humor. Call me a sick bastard, but it’s just my idea of a good time. ()
