4 Minutes to the Apocalypse is an action adventure game with elements of RPG and survival horror, which takes us to the post-apocalyptic universe. The agme was developed by independent Polish studio Atomic Wolf, having in its portfolio warmly welcomed Liberated.
Plot
In 4 Minutes to the Apocalypse, we are in the world after the nuclear war. The conflict, which lasted only a few hours, claimed millions of lives, and during the conflict, dozens of large cities were destroyed. Although those who have managed to survive have to fight for survival every day, some of them have been thinking about The Last Day Weapons - an arsenal that would be able to completely sterilise our planet, but was not used during the Great War for some reason. As the command centres have been destroyed and the governments have ceased to exist, it has been left without any supervision.
One of its elements is Arizona-12, a secretly maintained submarine. In the course of the game, we play as a member of a self-proclaimed peacekeeping force whose job is to sneak aboard the boat and destroy it so that it no longer threatens the world. However, as it turns out, Arizona-12 is not abandoned, turning the mission of the protagonist into a real fight for survival.
Mechanics
In 4 Minutes to the Apocalypse the action was shown from the first person perspective (FPP). As we play, we travel aboard Arizona-12 and gradually discover the secrets of this ship, finding out more and more about its past. This requires reading the notes and documents found along the way, hacking computers, and talking to friendly people. The task entrusted to us is made difficult by the enemies, whom we eliminate by making use of what is at hand - from cold weapons to guns. However, if the enemies have an advantage over us (in numbers or strength), it is much better to sneak behind their backs and, in extreme cases, to salute themselves by escaping and hiding in dark, hard to reach places.
Technical aspects
4 Minutes to the Apocalypse has a high-quality graphic design. Thanks to the dark style enhanced by gentle lighting (the darkness is often only illuminated by red glowing bulbs, flickering lamps or our weak torch), the creators managed to create a gloomy atmosphere, which is intensified by the soundtrack.
