Assassin's Creed III for PC, X360 and etc. is the fifth installment of the iconic game series from Ubisoft. The game is marked with number three, because it is the third part of the extensive story and because its main character is the third introduced ancestor of Desmond Miles.
Story
This time you play as a Metis named Connor, and the story is set in North America in the years 1753-1783. The boy is a fruit of love of an Indian woman and a British man. The story proper begins with a conflict between Indians and colonists, resulting in Connor’s home village being destroyed. The boy decides to dedicate his life to fighting tyranny and pursuing justice. The plot is being unfold around such events as e.g. the siege of Boston by a small army under George Washington, the Great Fire of New York, and Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride.
Gameplay
The story was moved to a new historical period, but the underlying mechanisms were not drastically changed. Again you get a chance to freely explore large urban areas, and the emphasis traditionally was put on killing and use of acrobatics for moving around. This does not mean, however, that the developers did not introduce any innovations. Compared with the previous installments, you spend much more time on the ground, acting like an unseen predator. The new assassin is much more aggressive than his predecessors, and in combat, apart from the classic hidden blade, he uses a tomahawk. Along with that go numerous improvements to combat system. E.g. you can now perform a double counter, and the game marks opponents for you, without you having to do that manually.
The authors greatly expanded the role of the areas between the cities. Out in the wild Connor feels like home – he is able to climb on rocks and trees, jump between branches and move smoothly in difficult terrain. With his animal-like agility he clearly excels any enemy he may face in the wild. A foot soldier of the British army is always at a loss in the forest. In open terrains you can also hunt for game, which provides you with skin and fur for trade, which is a part of the changed economic system. An important novelty is spectacular naval combat, during which you get to personally steer a ship. In these sequences you either wreck or capture enemy vessels.
Technology
Compared with the previous installments, Assassin's Creed III for PC, X360 and etc. has a greatly improved graphic engine, which results in detailed character models, sharper textures, and a whole set of attractive effects. A large innovation is the seasons cycle (e.g. snowdrifts can hinder movement in the wild), and it is possible to display up to 1000 character models on the screen.
Multiplayer
The game also includes several new multiplayer modes, based on the well-known mechanics (hiding from other players). In one of these, teams of players fight over designated points on the map.
