Banners of Ruins is a roguelike card game with RPG elements, deck-building and turn-based combat, set in an alternative medieval era with humanoid animals. Monte Bearo studio is responsible for the game.
Plot
Banners of Ruins is a game consisting of several scenarios in which we manage the Blackfoot clan after they were attacked by the evil Ender. Revenge is sweet, which is why we have a series of missions to infiltrate the enemy and weaken their defences in order to carry out the retaliation we dream of. By recruiting team members, we blend in with the crowd of Dawn's Point City to quietly and effectively eliminate key figures and guarding posts.
Mechanics
Banners of Ruins is a cornerstone card game in which we fight many enemies. But before this happens, we must first complete a team of 6 heroes. Among them we find animal warriors such as bears, otters and wolves, and each of them has a unique set of cards, necessary to build a powerful deck. This one is crucial for the game, because the skirmishes here are turn-based and require playing cards. Among them we will find cards that allow us to defend or attack, but also those that passively strengthen our units or weaken the enemy units for a while. However, a strong deck is not everything, because during the fight it is also important to put our warriors in two rows, but also a strategic approach to eliminating the enemy. Each skirmish win is an experience point for which we improve the characters, unlocking them access to special talent cards as well as passive skills. Besides, there is a good chance that the loot will fall out of the defeated enemies: weapons or armour, in which it is then worthwhile to dress our warriors to make them even more powerful during the skirmishes. But that's not all, because in the game we also have to improve our existing cards in the deck and buy new ones from various shopkeepers, who are willing to exchange them with us for the right amount.
But if we're not lucky and all our heroes die in one of the clashes, it's nothing terrible. This is part of the game, because in this way we get a special token that allows us to unlock new and interesting cards that significantly strengthen our deck in the future. Although we have fun from the beginning with the newly recruited heroes, the cards are exposed, just like in Slay the Spire.
While exploring the city of Dawn's Point, we also come across random events, some more and some less favorable, but practically always have an influence on how to get out of them.
Technical aspects
Banners of Ruins is a game which, despite the presence of animal heroes, puts on a darker atmosphere and a realistic line full of details.
