Battlefield 1: Revolution is a complete release of the game Battlefield 1, another entry in the popular first-person shooter series focused on online gameplay. The game was developed by DICE and originally released at the end of 2016 for PC, PS4 and XONE, among other platforms. The new edition offers all the content of the base game plus four add-ons: They Shall Not Pass, In the Name of the Tsar, Turning Tides, and Apocalypse. The PC version offers the highest resolution of graphics and more visual settings.

Plot

Battlefield 1: Revolution takes players to the fronts of the World War I – this is the first game in the series set in that period. The story campaign presents this great conflict from a perspective of five different soldiers, and takes you to the battlefields in France, Italy, and even the Ottoman Empire. Each hero has his own chapter, each one composing a complete story.

Mechanics

On one hand, Battlefield 1: Revolution for PC, PS4 and XONE is a comeback to the roots of the series, throwing players right in the middle of a heated conflict, but at the same time offering large, open maps and greater freedom of action than it was in the couple of last, much more linear games. On the other hand, DICE adjusted gameplay mechanics to resemble the World War I period, therefore, combat is a bit different than in Battlefield 4 or Battlefield: Bad Company 2; for example, close quarter combat – with the use of bayonettes, shovels or spades – has grown in significance.

The core gameplay is based on using fire weapons from the period, such as semi-automatic rifles and machine guns – each of those is ascribed to a specific character class. The game also featurs a variety of vehicles, including three classes of tanks, planes, but also the so-called behemots, like zeppelins or armored trains, which stand out with huge fire power. Each vehicle drives differently, so there is a difference between using a heavy and a light tank. Battlefield 1: Revolution expands the available equipment by the gear introduced in the four add-ons, such as the Russian revolver Nagant and German sniper rifle Level Model 1886, as well as new vehicles, including behemots, like the French superheavy tank FCM Char 2.

Game modes

Battlefield 1: Revolution offers a single player campaign made up of six chapters that tell individual stories from different regions of the world. Individual missons are not much different from multiplayer battles. The latter are the game’s main attraction, letting up to 64 people play together across a variety of game modes – from the classic Conquest and Domination, to the less ordinary War Pigeon and Operations. There are also new things introduced in DLCs, including the Frontlines from They Shall Not Pass, Supply Drop from In the Name of the Tsar and many new maps for the classic modes.

Technical aspects

Battlefield 1: Revolution for PC, PS4 and XONE is based on a new version of the Frostbite engine, known from EA DICE’s previous works. The game offers beautiful visuals fit for modern PCs and the eight generation consoles. The developer provided more interactive battlefields, which means that players can destroy more buildings (including massive forts) as well as use terrain to their advantage. Gameplay is also enriched with a dynamic weather system – this can have a significant influence on visibility.

Misc.

Battlefield 1: Revolutin includes the base game as well as the Premium Pass, which lets players download the content offered by the four DLC packs, including exclusive maps. Moreover, players get access to the new DLCs two weeks early.
