Brassheart is a two-dimensional point & click adventure game that was inpspired by the classics of the genre. The production takes players to an alternative version of the 1920s and uses the aesthetics typical for the dieselpunk (a cultural trend that talks about the interwar period and focuses on inventions that use, among others, a diesel engine) The game was developed by the Warsaw-based company Hexy Studio.
Plot
The main character of Brassheart is Pola Zagorska - a young girl who is trying to save her father. The man was kidnapped by an invention he had created - Valkiria. A powerful and ruthless machine tries to mechanize the whole earth. Hope is a mysterious invention - Brassheart - that can overcome the threat. The heroine sets off on a journey to find fragments of the device scattered in different places.
Mechanics
The developers of Brassheart emphasize that their game is a classic point & click adventure game - their task was to recreate the characteristic climate of similar productions. The game world we usually look at from the side ( side-scroll perspective), and we control the hero with the mouse. Our task is to explore the locations, talk to the characters we meet (e.g. artist Tamara or mechanic Manfred), collecting items and discovering the main storyline.
The game also requires the player to solve various puzzles, which sometimes use the collected items (they serve us, among other things, to create our own, improvised inventions), and other times require specific knowledge (e.g. mathematical). Our companion, an intelligent automaton named Pascal, helps us to cope with the challenges.
Game modes
We can only play Brassheart alone. The basis of the game is a feature campaign.
Technical aspects
Brassheart has a very nice, two-dimensional graphic design, which is based mainly on hand drawn and then animated illustrations. The game uses a distinct, yet quite subdued colour palette and refers in its artistic style to some European cartoons and animated films. Also noteworthy are the original designs of characters and locations, using the dieselpunk convention which is rarely used in video games. The game is soaked in humour and you can certainly enjoy it.
