Command and Conquer: Red Alert - Retaliation is a stand-alone expansion to Command and Conquer: Red Alert, a real-time strategy released in 1998 on PS1. This is a compilation that includes two expansions to the original game, previously released on PC - Counterstrike and The Aftermath. The production was created by Westwood studio, the creators of the Command and Conquer series, who have been taking care of it for many years.
Plot
Just like the other editions of the Red Alert series, Retaliation presents an alternative vision of the world in which Albert Einstein moved into the past to kill Hitler before he came to power. This allowed the Soviet Union to become a much larger military power that annexed Chinese lands and invaded Europe. The nations of the Old Continent have united and are trying to oppose Stalin's forces in the alternate version of World War II.
Mechanics
In terms of mechanics, Command & Conquer: Red Alert - Retaliation is very similar to Command & Conquer: Red Alert - it is a typical representative of the real-time strategy genre. The main difference is the introduction of additional types of units, including Tesla tank, Shock Trooper, Chrono tank and mechanic. The game also offers 105 maps for skirmish mode.
Technical aspects
Command & Conquer: Red Alert - Retaliation presents the action using simple 2D graphics. Compared to the Counterstrike and The Aftermath add-ons released on PC, the PS1 version includes previously absent video clips played before or after a mission.
