Commandos: Origins is the fourth (not counting spin-offs and remasters) main game in the Commandos series. It was developed by Claymore Game Studios and published by Kalypso Media. Like the first three installments, it's a tactical strategy game.
Plot
Commandos: Origins is set during World War II. As the title suggests, the game lets us see the origins of the titular commandos. Jack "the Green Beret" O'Hara, Thomas "the Sapper" Hancock, Francis T. "the Sniper" Woolridge, Samuel "The Driver" Brooklyn, James "The Marine" Blackwood and Rene "The Spy" Duchamp join forces to take on the Germans and the Axis forces all around the world.
Mechanics
Commandos: Origins makes use of the top-down perspective. We'll spend most of the game completing missions in various areas - ranging from sunny Africa and icy Arctic, through Western Europe, to the Eastern Front. The player must fulfill objectives, such as attacking enemy outposts, sabotaging or conducting rescue operations. Aside from main objectives, there are also plenty optional ones.
We can try to engage the enemy in open combat, but as they usually massively outnumber us, we'll be better off hiding, planning our next moves depending on the distribution of enemy forces and the abilities of our commandos. Each member of our squad has his own fighting style and abilities, which we must properly use and synchronize to come out on top.
Game modes
Commandos: Origins supports singleplayer, as well as local and online co-op.
Technical aspects
Commandos: Origins features colorful, detailed visuals.
