Coral Island is a farmer simulator inspired by games such as Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing and My Time At Portia. The game allows us to build our own farm, where we grow crops and raise animals. The game was developed and published by independent studio Stairway Games. The project was funded through a crowdfunding campaign.
Plot
The protagonist of Coral Island moves from a city called Pokyo (this is probably a reference to Tokyo) to a small island on a coral reef, where he tries to build his own farm.
Mechanics
In Coral Island we observe the action from top-down view. We control a self-created character (we can specify gender and appearance). The main part of the game is building and developing your farm - constructing buildings, choosing the types of crops and animal species you want to breed, and then looking after everything.
Interaction with NPCs also plays a key role. The island is home to dozens of different people we can talk to and give gifts to. What's more, a dozen of them are potential romantic partners for our hero or heroine.
But that's not all - the player can also develop a nearby town and engage in diving to restore the coral reef. Additionally - like in My Time at Portia or Stardew Valley - we have the possibility of exploring the mines in search of treasures (however, this comes with the threat of monsters, which we fight using a simple arcade combat system).
Game modes
In Coral Island we can only play alone. The core of the game is the single player mode.
Technical aspects
Coral Island has a pleasant graphic design combining 2D and 3D elements (the game world is in three dimensions, but during conversations with NPCs we see their 2D images on the screen). The graphics is somewhat cartoon-like and brings to mind the Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing series, but unlike them, it does not use the typical manga style.
