Decarnation

Decarnation is a psychological horror adventure game. It was developed by an indie studio Atelier QDB and published by Shiro Games (Shiro Unlimited). The source of inspiration for the creators was, among others, the works of H.P. Lovecraft, as well as the movies Perfect Blue and Mullholland Drive.

Plot

Decarnation takes us to the Paris of 1990. The game's protagonist is a cabaret dancer named Gloria, overwhelmed by life's failures; her relationships are falling apart and her career seems to be coming to an end. The light at the end of the tunnel is an opportunity to participate in an artistic endeavor that could either change Gloria's fate or ultimately destroy her. To prevent it, she must face her demons and other horrors lurking in her subconscious.

Game mechanics

In Decarnation we observe the action from a top-down view. The action takes place in two worlds - the real one and the dream one, which is a terrifying projection of Gloria's mind. In the first one we accompany the heroine in her everyday life, while in the second one we solve various puzzles, avoid monsters hunting us and fight with powerful bosses. The game features mini-games that test your dexterity, reflexes and sense of rhythm; they present both real-life situations from Gloria's life (such as dancing in front of an audience) and various scenes with metaphorical meaning.

Graphics in Decarnation is made using the pixel art technique.
