Don't Kill Them All is a humorous strategy game in which we lead a clan of orcs on the path to self-discovery and development. The game was developed by the independent studio Fika Productions, which has the warmly received game Ship of Fools in its portfolio.
Plot
Don't Kill Them All takes us to a fantasy world where orcs cause real fear. The main character, a half-orc girl named Olive raised by elves, decides to take on a seemingly impossible task of showing the orcs a life driven by passion and development, not by the desire to kill anyone who gets in their way. It's up to her to achieve the goal she's aiming for.
Mechanics
In Don't Kill Them All we watch the action in an isometric view. Our base of operations is an orc camp, where the green creatures spend their free time, resting and discovering their personalities.
The subsequent structures we build in the camp serve not only to ensure that the orcs can survive, but also to give them the opportunity to discover hobbies and interests. Over time, they may turn into their true passions. By engaging in activities such as magic, gardening, practicing yoga, breeding animals, or baking delicious cakes, orcs gradually unlock new skills, which can be useful in various ways to both themselves and their relatives.
Each orc has a name, an individual set of positive and negative traits, and its own weapon and clothing, and can also establish relationships with other members of this unusual community. Additionally, orcs have such statistics as motivation, persistence, efficiency, and movement, which determine their capabilities. The moods of individual orcs also play an important role, influencing their behavior. For example, while an evil orc can be unpredictable, a sad one will lack motivation to act, whereas a happy orc will enthusiastically carry out our commands. Various external factors, led by environmental threats, affect the mood of orcs.
For our orc camp to prosper, and its inhabitants to strive for self-improvement, resources are necessary. We obtain them during expeditions, on which we go as teams composed based on the strengths and passions of individual orcs. Venturing into procedurally generated locations, we ensure access to valuable resources, but we also risk encountering creatures like trolls, goblins, or ogres, who do not like our actions. Every orc we control will have to reach for a weapon sooner or later.
While the game features real time in the camp and during exploration, clashes with opponents take place in turn-based mode. On the battlefield, we must not only properly position the orcs and skillfully use their strengths and abilities, but also keep them on a kind of leash. Orcs can destroy valuable resources in the heat of the battle and we must avoid that. The issue of issuing precise commands is complicated by the facts that area attacks are the leading type, and that the number of available orders is limited by the available energy.
