Emergency 20 is a yet another installment in the popular strategy-simulation game series, in which the player assumes the role of the crisis team chief. The game is a form of a compilation of the best elements featured throughout the series over 20 years. These elements have been improved and remastered. Developed by Sixteen Tons Entertainment, the game is available on PC.
Mechanics
When playing Emergency 20 for PC, you get to control units of the fire brigade, police, emergency medical services, and technical services, the members of which have to deal with the aftermath of different accidents, natural disasters, and catastrophes. Players are tasked with securing the area, tending to the injured, and cleaning up the site after an operation.
All these activities have to be completed in real time, thus, the key to success lies in the ability to improvise. The game features three difficulty levels, which determine the complexity of particular challenges and can be adjusted to meet players' preferences and skills.
Game modes
The PC release of Emergency 20 comprises three campaigns featured in its predecessors – Emergency 5, Emergency 2016, and Emergency 2017 – as well as ten classic missions from the earlier installments in the series. These missions have been remastered in terms of the visuals and gameplay mechanics. There is also the Free Play mode, in which players do not have to worry about preset time and resource limits, even in the cooperative multiplayer. The entire experience is well complemented with videos showing the game development process with the commentary of Ralph Stock, who is one of the developers.
Technical aspects
Emergency 20 delivers decent quality 3D visuals – the elements of the environment and vehicle models used by diverse units are rich with details. Also, the particle effects accompanying the catastrophes are bound to please player's eyes, e.g. during the realistic smoke animations.
