Everywhere is a sandbox production avoiding classification to a single genre. It was developed by the Edinburghian studio Build A Rocket Boy founded by Leslie Benzies - former president of Rockstar North. In some aspects the game might bring the hugely popular Roblox to mind.
Mechanics
The most important part of Everywhere is Utopia; a hub serving as a community center. It's surrounded by a variety of biomes (such as grasslands, canyons and volcanic wastelands) containing special challenges that add variety to the game.
Utopia also acts as a home base, from which players can move to a variety of neighborhoods focused on a particular theme. The players will visit the Racing District containing various races, the Combat District offering TPP combat, the Entertainment District with such attractions as a special museum, a DJ hall and the game MindsEye, as well as The Collection, where they can watch other players' creations.
The game offers a wide range of tools to create custom content with. The ARC-adia package lets one create their own enemies and design levels, then place them in matching districts. It also lets the player create smaller things, such as small objects or cosmetic details. Completed works can be sent to a special store, from where other players-creators can acquire them.
MindsEye
MindsEye can be considered a separate game developed by Build A Rocket Boy, available within Everywhere. This action adventure game is set in the near future, in a world filled with cutting-edge technology, ruled by evil corporations. The game is episodic; while some episodes were created with singleplayer in mind, others are multiplayer.
Game modes
Everywhere supports both singleplayer and multiplayer.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Everywhere are very appealing. The game makes use of a colorful, cartoonish artstyle. The exception is MindsEye, which features realistic visuals, detailed environments and richly animated character models.
The game runs on the Amazon Lumberyard engine (bsaed on CryEngine) and is closely linked to other Amazon Web Services (AWS), such as the streaming service Twitch and Amazon GameLift, a service dedicated to creating servers. It's worth noting that, contrary to many players' initial fears, the game doesn't use NFTs or the blockchain.
