HAAK
Metroidvania developed in action platform game style. In HAAK we play the protagonist, who travels through a post-apocalyptic world and eliminates hordes of enemies, heading to a safe land located in the far south.
HAAK is a metroidvania in the form of an action platform game. It was developed by the indie studio Blingame.
Plot
HAAK takes us on a journey to a post-apocalyptic world. The only place that remained almost untouched by the global cataclysm is the land of Sanho, located in the far south. We play as the title character - Haak - who leaves his hometown in the north and embarks on a long journey to the south. The protagonist intends to find his lost brother and reach a place he can call his new home. However, accomplishing this task will not be easy, as along the way our protégé will have to face numerous dangers, led by mysterious organizations that seem to be pulling the strings in this ruined world. How his fate will turn out, as well as which of the game's endings we will see, depends on our actions.
Mechanics
In HAAK we observe the action from the side. The adventure takes us through a variety of locations - from bleak wilderness, through futuristic cities, to undergrounds bathed in darkness. The locations are interconnected, creating a kind of vast maze. Traversing the levels, we jump on platforms, avoid numerous obstacles and face enemies. Our main tool is a multifunctional energy grappling hook, which comes in handy both during exploration and on the battlefield; with its help the protagonist can grab onto platforms and quickly move to hard-to-reach places, hack devices encountered along the way or, finally, attack enemies. On our way are both serial opponents, which Haak has no difficulty defeating, and much more powerful bosses.
As we progress, we not only learn more and more about the game world and its characters, but also gain weapon upgrades and new skills that allow us to face more and more challenges and get into previously inaccessible locations.
Technical aspects
HAAK features colorful graphics made in a cartoonish style. The game is played to the accompaniment of an atmospheric electronic soundtrack.
