Ib is an horror adventure game. The project was developed by a Japanese developer known as kouri. It is a commercial remake of a free title from the same developer, originally released in 2012.
Plot
The game tells the story of a 9-year-old girl named Ib. One day, during a trip with her parents to an art gallery, she is transported to a nightmarish dimension of animated paintings. To make matters worse, her life becomes tied to a rose flower and she will die if all its petals fall off.
Traveling through this surreal land, Ib soon meets companions - a girl her own age named Mary and a young man known as Garry, both also carrying the same magical roses. The three heroes will have to find a way to return to the real world.
Game mechanics
Ib is an adventure game in which events are observed from a top-down view. Player explores the world and solves puzzles, consisting mainly in finding a way to bypass roadblocks on the travel route or avoiding traps. The gameplay is also enriched by some arcade elements in the form of sections where we have to escape from monsters.
In the game rose petals act as life points. We can lose them as a result of enemies' attacks, contact with traps or through bad story decisions. When the number of petals falls to zero, the game ends.
An additional attraction of Ib is the non-linear plot, which, depending on the player's decisions, offers several alternative endings.
Game modes
The game features a single player mode only.
Technical aspects
Ib features a simple 2D graphics done in a style that reminds of 32-bit Japanese RPGs.
